Melbourne, This Summer Must Be Protected at All Costs

Where do we even begin? It’s been a shocking few months here in Melbourne. Lockdown has crippled individuals and small businesses alike and now there’s just one question on everyone’s lips, “When is it going to end?”
But, it hasn’t been all bad. As we’ve tentatively laid out picnic rugs, relished in a handful of 25 degree days and started to see familiar faces again, small businesses have been collaborating, innovating, and working hard to ensure that Melburnians don’t miss out on all the best of a much anticipated summer.
Grab your picnic rug and your four-legged friend and head outside – these locals have got you covered.
Park Wines
This small business is nailing lockdown. Melbourne-based online wine store Diggin’ In The Cellars, also of The Moon, The Alps, Toorak Cellars and Milton Wine Shop, has dug deeper than ever with the launch of its latest project, Park Wines. Delivering to Edinburgh and Carlton Gardens, Park Wines is offering a much-needed drinks delivery service to those Melburnians getting some precious vitamin D.
Park Wines is doing the hard work for you - order two bottles or more by 2pm on Saturday or Sunday, head to the park and you’ll be picnic-ready in no time. Get some juice into ya and don’t forget to slip, slop, slap!

MPavilion
They don’t call Melbourne Australia’s culture and design capital for no reason, and MPavilion is bringing it this summer. The Melbourne-based architecture commission has launched its summer program, with a pandemic twist. Since its inception in 2014, the Naomi Milgrom Foundation has commissioned an architect to design a pavilion to become the focus of a free, annual program of cultural events and experiences.
This year, MPavilion is adapting its operation to be more accessible, efficient and sustainable, i.e. #COVIDSafe. In place of commissioning a new structure, MPavilion 2020 will prioritise an expanded program that supports local designers and artists by reusing its six existing pavilions.
New locations include Docklands, Melbourne Zoo and Monash University’s Clayton campus. Running from 12 November 2020 to 5 April 2021, MPavilion will continue to foster discussion and debate about the role that design, architecture and culture have in creating cities that are liveable, creative and equitable.
4 Pines Welcome to Brunswick
Stage four lockdowns have sadly seen the 4 Pines Welcome to Brunswick venue close its doors. But the partnership between 4 Pines Brewery and the Welcome To Group is not taking it lying down. Instead they’re making friends and are out for delivery.
Welcome to Brunswick has partnered with local bookstore Brunswick Bound to bring you Books and Beers. Choose a literary classic and a longneck of your choice, and kick your pet, kid or housemate off the comfy armchair. Happy Sunday!
Also on offer is The Beer Picnic Pack complete with frisbee, The Wine Picnic Pack (also complete with frisbee), or The Pie and Beer Pack. And, if you’re a footy fan, every purchase of a pie pack goes into the draw to win a footy party for four for the 2021 season.
Lunar Drive In Cinema
If you’ve got the COVID blues and don’t know what to do this summer, the drive-in cinema has never been more relevant. Dandenong’s Lunar Drive In Theatre is the largest drive-in theatre in Australia. First opened in 1956, this night out is just the thing to satisfy your nostalgic flic fix.
No doubt, many of us are on a budget because of COVID-19. If this sounds like the night out for you, pay only $25 per car load Monday to Wednesday and $30 Thursday to Sunday. Coming soon is a Fast & Furious Movie Marathon, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Joker and many more.
Treat yourself to a pack of hot jam donuts from the Lunar Cafe and settle in for an evening under the stars.
