Extinction Rebellion is a global movement of people whose core strategy is creating nonviolent civil disobedience in order to demand urgent action on climate change. Extinction Rebellion has three demands: the Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, the Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025 and the Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.

October 7 marks the beginning of the Spring Rebellion, a week-long protest that involves peaceful but disruptive occupation of city centres, including Melbourne.
